Born in El Paso, Texas, Trustee Mendoza’s parents moved the entire family, his five brothers and four sisters to Los Angeles where he completed grade school and up through high school.
As he continued with his education, Trustee Mendoza would graduate from Rio Hondo College with a Associate in Science degree, California State University Fullerton with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and Chapman University with a Master's in Science degree. Trustee Mendoza was the first in his family to have ever graduated with advanced degrees.
Trustee Mendoza pursued his career of choice and graduated from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, worked for Glendora Police Department, California Department of Corrections, and completed his last twenty years at Chowchilla Police Department where he honorably retired as a patrol sergeant, formally a detective sergeant.
He was appointed by the mayor and confirmed by Madera City Council
to serve as a Civil Service Commissioner for six years, prior to Madera Unified.
In the interim, Trustee Mendoza returned to work and is currently employed for Merced County.
Trustee Mendoza has two daughters that graduated from Madera High, one in 2019, and the other in 2023. They’ve both gone on to college, one in pursuit of teaching and the other to serve in the medical field.
