Open Enrollment
  • Madera Unified School District offers families the opportunity to apply for schools outside of their attendance area through our annual Open Enrollment. Due to limited space, a lottery system is used to ensure fair and equitable access. You only need to apply for Open Enrollment if you wish your child to attend a school other than their designated school of residence. If you want your child to attend their assigned school, please complete the standard New Student Registration. Use our School Site Locator to determine your school of residence. Application is only available via Google Form and will be open March 1st - April 30th.

Please review the different options below and choose the transfer that meets your needs.

Open Enrollment Transfer

Lives in the district and wants to attend a different MUSD school

Inter-District Transfer (Entering)

Lives outside the district and wants to attend a MUSD school

Inter-District Transfer (Leaving)

Lives in the district and wants to attend a school in a different district

Inter-District

Inter-district transfer applications are required for students wishing to attend a school outside of their resident district. This process involves approval from both the student's current district of residence and the desired receiving district. Parents should contact their resident school district for specific application procedures, deadlines, and transfer criteria. The receiving district retains the right to assign inter-district transfer students to any of its schools.

Intra-District

Intra-district transfers allow students residing within the Madera Unified boundaries to apply for enrollment at a school other than their assigned school of residence. To be considered, requests must meet at least one of the following criteria: employment, medical needs, a change of legal address, or childcare needs (TK-6th grade). Approval is contingent upon space availability at the requested school. Please note that families of students attending school on an intra-district transfer are responsible for providing transportation to and from the school of choice. All intra-district transfer approvals expire at the end of each school year.

Annual Employment

Applications are available for parents who work within MUSD attendance boundaries. Once granted, students become residents of the district, not a specific school. Parents must verify employment annually to maintain enrollment. New School Year applications are available annually on March 1st.
